Adding the fourth “r”
Basic school readiness, which includes reading, writing, and arithmetic should require a fourth “r:” rhythm. In recent years researchers have strongly linked the connection between music and the neural wiring taking place in a young child’s mind.
That’s why ABC Music & Me infuses rhythm and music into every lesson. Just as you learned the alphabet by singing the ABC’s, the music-based activities in ABC Music & Me help children develop lasting skills in all areas of school readiness.
Here's how ABC Music & Me helps reinforce the day to day rhythm of learning:
~Reading—Exposure to a variety of sounds, instruments, and songs “tunes” young ears to the phonemes and sounds that make up language. In addition, the wide variety of listening experiences in ABC Music & Me improves pronunciation and expressive speaking skills.
~Writing—Hands-on musical activities, where children play musical instruments and coordinate physical movements in time with music, develop and strengthen the gross and fine motor skills necessary to hold a pencil. In addition these activities help children to tie a shoe, and develop a sense of rhythm to use a pair of scissors.
~Math—Exposure to the rhythm concepts in ABC Music & Me is an early primer for learning math, fractions, as well as developing spatial-reasoning skills necessary to grasp concepts such as scientific and engineering ideas.
